This course is ideal for students wishing to work within the engineering industry. Students firstly study the HNC Engineering and then have the option to progress to the HND.
The HNC is an eight unit qualification which involves studying four mandatory core subjects and a further four specialist subjects.

The units have been chosen to meet a broad range of local industry needs.

Assessments are mainly by assignment with some testing in the analytical subjects. The course provides high quality industry related training for those who wish to pursue a career in the engineering sector.

A minimum of 48 UCAS Tariff points from the following: GCE A and AS Levels in relevant subjects, with at least one subject at A Level. BTEC National (Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject Access to HE Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher with at least one subject at Advanced Higher. For mature applicants some experience may be taken in lieu of A Levels / BTECs. Plus GCSE English – grade C/4 or above GCSE Maths – grade C/4 or above (Level 2 Functional skills is not taken as an equivalent)EU and International applicants NARIC confirmed equivalent of 48 UCAS points IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum of 5.5 in each component. Equivalent English language qualifications may be acceptable for applicants requiring a visa

There are typically 3-4 assessment tasks per module delivered. The assessment methods used throughout the programme include: Practical assessments Timed assessments Coursework Written assessments The programme specification details the assessment strategy for each module.The HNC is a qualification which is widely recognised in its own right and provides students with the skills required for employment in a range of associated professions. On successful completion of the course students can continue at the college and study the HND in either Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (subject to sufficient numbers). Students can choose to top up to degree level at another higher institution. The point of entry will depend on the chosen institution and the subjects studied and the grades achieved at HNC/D.

You will need general stationery equipment including a lever arch folder to store your work and notes in and a scientific calculator (Casio FX991ES or similar, Smartphone apps are not a suitable alternative). You will also require access to the internet; pc's are available on campus.

Additional compulsory course costs will be paid for using the Career Degree Bursary. The scheme allows students to access the remainder of the bursary (up to a maximum value of £500 / £250) for additional optional courses, workshops, professional memberships and resources. There is no cash alternative. This course is validated by Pearson. The validating institution is responsible for awarding the qualification at the end of the programme. Students on validated courses are OfS registered, funded and taught at Lincoln College and it is the responsibility of the College to manage all aspects of this provision. The validating institution maintains an oversight of the programme throughout the academic year and must be satisfied that students are being taught in line with the required academic standards of the awarding institution.
